FAQs
We aim to be as transparent as possible, providing a community where people can connect with a shared experience.
1. Is there a cost?
We’re passionate about building a supportive community and would love you to join us in telling cancer to take a hike.
Our first hike is free of charge.
If future events incur a cost, it will be clearly stated in the hike details on our Book a Hike page.
2. Can I bring a friend or family member who hasn't had cancer?
Yes, absolutely. Anyone affected by cancer, (personally or through a loved one), of any age and any level of hiking experience is welcome.
3. What are the hike grades?
We offer different hike grades so you can choose what feels right for you:
-
Easy: 1–3 hours with a steady incline

We’re always happy to help you decide which option suits you best.

6. What should I drink?
Another great question. Click here to view our hiking nutrition checklist.
7. Do I need medical clearance?
Yes. It’s important that you’ve informed your medical team and received medical clearance before taking part. All participants are required to sign an online disclaimer before attending each hike.
If you’re unsure, please talk to us. We’re happy to help.
8. What level of fitness do I need?
A basic level of fitness is required. You should feel comfortable walking at a steady pace for over an hour. Our guides are mindful of pace and rest, and we hike together as a group.
9. What if I need to stop, rest, or turn back?
That’s completely okay. Your wellbeing matters more than the route. Whether that means slowing down, taking extra breaks, or turning back, you’ll be supported every step of the way.
10. Are there car-pooling options?
As the community grows, we hope to offer car-pooling options. For now, transport details will be shared ahead of each hike.
11. What are some good snack recipes?
We thought you’d never ask! Click here for some yummy, healthy snack ideas to keep the hangry woodland creatures at bay. Please do email us any recipes you would like to share.
12. Will I be stretching?
Yes! We’ll guide you through a gentle dynamic warm-up before the hike and a cool-down stretch afterwards, usually in the car park.
13. How do I subscribe?
We will be launching a subscription option to receive updates about upcoming hikes, community events, and helpful hiking resources later this year.
14. Any goodies?
Of course! Each participant will receive the much coveted, collectors items...your very own "Cancer Take A Hike" pin.
15. Photos/Videos
We would love you to share any pictures/videos from each hike. You can send them to us at cancertakeahike@gmail.com or tag our Instagram page @cancertakeahike
16. What about bad weather?
This is Ireland. There’s no such thing as “Bad weather”, only questionable wardrobe choices! We've got you covered...check out our "Layering Up" guide under Hiking Info.
That said, we follow official weather warnings and reserve the right to cancel hikes if things get biblical. Safety first. Always. 🥾🌧️
