Ready to conquer one of Ireland’s most legendary peaks, Ireland's table mountain?
Ben Bulbin means "beak-shaped peak" or "Gulban's peak" and got its distinctive shape (a flat plateau summit) from glaciers moving from the northeast to the southwest during the Ice Age over 320 million years ago!
The elevation is 526 metres, offering incredible views over Yeat's County, Sligo.
Yeats's famous poem Under Ben Bulben was his final poem to write. Yeat's is buried in Drumcliffe Churchyard, in the shadow of Benbulbin.
We will approach Benbulbin from the south side, since that side slopes gently. This hike is classed as moderate/difficult due to sharp drops and it can be boggy in parts! Hiking boots are essential and gaiters and poles are recommended. It's certainly worth the effort though, as the tabletop summit has jaw dropping views and magnificent cliffs sweeping over Sligo Bay.
